"We just want a new coat of paint, the functionality stays." We hear this sentence on almost every redesign enquiry and it almost never turns out to be true. When we open the site, half the pages are unreadable, the contact form sends to an inbox nobody checks and the mobile version falls apart. The new coat of paint would cost CZK 25,000 and change nothing about why the site does not earn money. That is why redesign prices are so hard to estimate up front, and why this article is not just called "how much" but also "when it pays off".
In short: a website redesign in the Czech Republic in 2026 costs from CZK 15,000 for a facelift of the existing site, CZK 35,000 to 120,000 for a complete redesign of a business site, and CZK 60,000 to 300,000 for an online store. Changing technology adds 20 to 50 percent. It takes three to sixteen weeks depending on scope. It pays off when the site is losing enquiries because of an outdated look, a broken mobile version or poor structure; it does not pay off when the problem is speed, traffic or copy - those you can fix at a fraction of the price without a redesign. Below I break down the three levels of redesign, a price table by site type, the hidden costs and a simple payback calculation.
Three levels of redesign and what they cost
The word redesign covers three very different things, and quotes can only be compared once you know which one each supplier is offering.
| Level | What changes | Price | Duration | When it makes sense |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Facelift | Colours, fonts, photos, buttons, minor layout tweaks. Structure, copy and technology stay. | CZK 15,000 to 40,000 | 2 to 3 weeks | The site works fine, it just looks five years older than the company. |
| Redesign | New page structure, new design, reworked copy, content migration, redirects. Technology stays or is updated. | CZK 35,000 to 120,000 | 4 to 8 weeks | The site no longer matches what the company sells, or does not work on mobile. |
| Rebuild | All of the above plus new technology: moving from Webnode or an old theme to WordPress or a custom build, new integrations. | CZK 60,000 to 250,000 | 6 to 12 weeks | The current platform is holding you back: slow, unextendable, expensive to maintain. |
The most common mistake is buying a facelift when the site needs a redesign. A new look on a bad structure lasts a year and then gets done again; in total you pay more than if you had done the redesign straight away. We explain how to tell which level you need in our seven signs your website needs a redesign.
Redesign prices in 2026 by type of site
The ranges reflect the quotes from Czech studios and freelancers we have seen over the past year and our own pricing. Prices exclude VAT and apply to a redesign on the existing technology; add a rebuild premium from the table above where relevant.
| Type of site | Facelift | Redesign | What moves the price most |
|---|---|---|---|
| Landing page / brochure site (1 to 5 pages) | CZK 10,000 to 20,000 | CZK 15,000 to 40,000 | New copy and photos |
| Business website (5 to 30 pages) | CZK 15,000 to 40,000 | CZK 35,000 to 120,000 | Number of page templates, content migration |
| Site with a blog or catalogue (30 to 200 pages) | CZK 25,000 to 50,000 | CZK 60,000 to 180,000 | Volume of content, redirects, filtering |
| Online store | CZK 30,000 to 80,000 | CZK 60,000 to 300,000 | Number of products, checkout, payment and stock integrations |
| Web application / client area | CZK 50,000 and up | CZK 100,000 to 500,000 | Interface complexity, user testing |
For comparison with a new build: a business website from scratch starts at CZK 35,000 and so does an online store, as we detail in how much a website costs. A redesign at the same level therefore costs about the same. What you save on is having content, a brand and data on what works, not on design and development, which are done again.
What makes up the price of a redesign
For a typical business-site redesign at CZK 70,000 the breakdown looks roughly like this:
- Analysis and structure (10 to 15%): what works on the old site according to analytics, what does not, which pages to add and which to merge. This is where it is decided whether the redesign will deliver anything.
- Design (25 to 30%): page templates, mobile version, components. The price grows with the number of distinct templates, not the number of pages.
- Development (30 to 35%): turning the design into a working site, forms, speed, accessibility.
- Content migration and redirects (10 to 15%): moving copy, images and articles, mapping old URLs to new, post-launch checks. The most underestimated item.
- Testing, launch and training (5 to 10%).
Three things push the price up most: the number of distinct page types (each is effectively a small design), the amount of content to migrate, and integrations (bookings, CRM, payments) that have to be reconnected and tested after the redesign.
Hidden costs the quote forgets
The difference between the quote and the final bill almost always comes from items that are not in the quote because "the client will supply them":
- New copy. A redesign with the old copy is a facelift. A copywriter for a business site costs CZK 15,000 to 40,000, or dozens of hours of your time.
- Photography and video. A half-day company shoot CZK 8,000 to 20,000. Stock photos are free to cheap, but recognisable.
- Legal texts. Privacy notice, terms and conditions, cookie banner. We listed what the law requires in our mandatory website information checklist; for a store budget CZK 10,000 to 30,000 for a lawyer.
- Licences and plugins. Premium theme, form plugin, translations: CZK 3,000 to 15,000 a year.
- Maintenance after launch. A new site needs updates just like the old one; budget CZK 3,000 to 6,000 a month with an agency, see website maintenance costs.
- Your time. Approvals, materials, testing: realistically 20 to 40 hours for a business site. Nobody invoices this item and everybody pays it.
When a redesign pays off: a simple calculation
A redesign is an investment and can be calculated like any other. You need three numbers from your analytics: monthly traffic, conversion rate (the share of visits that send an enquiry or buy) and average order value.
Example of a trades company's site: 1,500 visits a month, 1 percent conversion, so 15 enquiries, of which a third close at an average margin of CZK 8,000. The site currently brings in CZK 40,000 of margin a month. A redesign that fixes the mobile version and simplifies the path to an enquiry lifts conversion to 1.5 percent, a conservative estimate for sites with a broken mobile experience. That is 22 enquiries and CZK 59,000 of margin a month, CZK 19,000 more. A CZK 80,000 redesign pays back in four to five months.
The same calculation also shows the opposite. A site with 200 visits a month cannot be saved by a redesign: even doubling conversion yields two extra enquiries and payback stretches into years. Such a site does not need a new design, it needs visitors, meaning content and local SEO.
A redesign typically pays off in these situations:
- the site has traffic but the mobile version is unusable (check your share of mobile visits, commonly 60 to 70 percent today),
- the company has changed its offer, target group or brand and the site says something different from the sales team,
- the site cannot be edited without a developer and every change costs hours,
- visitors cannot find the price, the contact or what the company does within a few seconds,
- the platform is being discontinued or is expensive to maintain (old themes, unsupported plugins).
When a redesign does not pay off
Honestly: for roughly a third of redesign enquiries we recommend something cheaper. The three most common cases:
The site is slow. A slow site loses customers, but speed is not fixed by a new design. Optimising images, hosting and code costs CZK 10,000 to 30,000 and takes a week. We explain what Google measures and why it hurts in our piece on Core Web Vitals.
The site has no traffic. A new design brings nobody. If a few hundred people a month visit, invest in content and search first and do the redesign once there is something to convert.
The site has weak copy or an unclear offer. If a visitor cannot tell what you sell and for how much, a new design will not save it. Rewriting the homepage and service pages costs a fraction of a redesign and often has a bigger effect.
And one non-financial reason we hear often: "we are tired of the site". You are, because you see it every day. A customer sees it once. If it does its job, let it work and put the money into whatever is actually holding back enquiries.
How not to lose search rankings in a redesign
The most expensive redesign mistake is not in the design but in what happens to the old URLs. A site with ten years of search history where half the pages end up as 404s after the redesign loses rankings that take months to recover. Every redesign quote should therefore include: a list of all existing URLs, a redirect map to the new ones, carried-over titles, descriptions and structured data, and a Search Console check a week after launch. The full step-by-step process is in our guide to migrating a website without losing SEO. If the quote does not have this item, ask who will do it.
How to recognise a good redesign quote
- It starts with analysis, not design. Anyone who sends you a visual concept without looking at your analytics is selling a facelift regardless of what you need.
- It says which level it is. Facelift, redesign or rebuild, and why that one.
- It has a line for redirects and content migration. See above.
- It separates what you supply. Copy, photos, legal documents, with an estimate of what it costs if you do not.
- It treats mobile first. Not as a "responsive adjustment" at the end.
- It has a fixed price and deadline. An hourly rate on a redesign means you carry the scope risk. We wrote up how to ask in our twelve questions for a web agency.
How we do redesigns
At Kosmoweb we start a website redesign with a half-hour look at your analytics and your current site. We tell you honestly which of the three levels you fall into, and if the problem is speed or copy, we recommend that instead of a redesign. We redesign business websites from CZK 35,000 at a fixed price with a four-to-six-week deadline, including a redirect map and a rankings check after launch; online stores are priced by scope. After launch we can look after the site as part of project support. If you are unsure whether your site needs a redesign or just a fix, send us the link and you will have an answer with a number within two days.
