How much does an online store cost in 2026? Shoptet, WooCommerce or custom

An online store on Shoptet costs from CZK 440 a month excluding VAT (Basic plan, price list checked 5 November 2026), and a WooCommerce store built by us costs from €2,400 as a one-off. We deliver it in 6-8 weeks. We are not VAT registered, so €2,400 is the final price. A custom store costs more and can't be priced without knowing the scope. For a small shop, Shoptet is often the best choice, even though we earn nothing from it.

Online store prices in 2026 by option

The cost of building an online store depends above all on whether you pay rent or pay for construction.

We checked third-party prices on 5 November 2026 on Shoptet's price list and Shopify's price list (both in Czech). Shoptet quotes prices excluding 21% VAT and gives 10% off for annual billing. On the Basic plan, Shopify adds 2% per transaction when payments don't go through Shopify Payments. Plans change, so check them before you decide. Our own prices are on the pricing page, and what a store includes is on our e-commerce development page.

What comes out cheaper over three years

You can't compare a monthly plan with a one-off price until you put both on the same period. Over three years, Shoptet Basic comes to CZK 15,840, Business to CZK 53,640 and Profi to CZK 89,640, all excluding VAT (price list as of 5 November 2026). A business that isn't a VAT payer pays 21% more, so about CZK 532 a month on Basic.

WooCommerce with us starts at €2,400, and then come the running costs. Maintenance at CZK 5,000 a month adds CZK 180,000 over three years, before hosting and licences. On the other side, the plan prices leave out paid add-ons, a template and your own time. Treat this as a comparison of two models, not a final budget.

A small shop can't beat a plan on pure cost. A store of your own has to earn its keep some other way than by saving money.

When Shoptet wins

Shoptet is a Czech rented platform. You pay for the plan and the operator takes care of servers, updates and security. For a shop with tens or hundreds of products, selling in the Czech Republic with no technical person of its own, it's often the best choice. You start quickly, find out whether the goods sell, and don't tie up €2,400 in a store that may never earn it back.

The price is limits. Design and features end where the platform and its add-ons end, and the code isn't yours. As long as that doesn't bother you, there's nothing more to solve.

When Shopify wins

Shopify is a rented platform built for selling across several countries, and it makes sense when most of your sales go abroad. For a purely Czech shop, work out the transaction percentages first, especially if you want to use a Czech payment gateway. We cover the details on our Shopify vs. WooCommerce page.

When WooCommerce wins

WooCommerce is your own installation on your own hosting. It wins for a shop already running on WordPress or one built around search traffic, because the blog and guides live in the same system as the products. The other reason is a feature a rented platform can't do, such as a product configurator. In exchange you take on updates and security, either yourself or through maintenance. We won't repeat the budgets and yearly running costs here: they're in what a WooCommerce store costs.

When a custom store pays off

A custom store is really a web application whose main job is selling. It makes sense when the store is the core of the business and the platform is in the way: your own B2B pricing logic, ERP and warehouse integration that follows your rules, or an order process that won't fit a template. That's why it has no single number in the table. What makes such a project expensive is covered in what a web application costs.

It pays off only once your sales are hitting the platform's ceiling. Building one at the start means paying to solve problems you don't have yet.

What adds cost on any platform

The number of products matters less than people expect. Variants take more work, meaning sizes, colours and their combinations. So does moving from an old system: products, customers, order history and redirects from old URLs, as described in our guide to website migration without losing SEO. Integration with accounting and warehouse software such as Pohoda, Money S3 or ABRA is another line.

Payments and shipping, on the other hand, are solved on the Czech market. We worked out the fees in our comparison of Czech payment gateways. The usual risk to the deadline is product data, because the photos, descriptions and variants come from the shop owner.

How to decide

  1. Are you selling little so far, or still testing whether the goods sell? Start on Shoptet.
  2. Do you sell mostly abroad? Run the numbers on Shopify.
  3. Do you have WordPress, or do your sales depend on content? Look at WooCommerce.
  4. Do you need something add-ons can't do, and do you have the sales to pay for it? Only then go custom.

Starting on Shoptet and moving later is a sensible route. The move is extra work, but a smaller risk than an expensive store for goods that don't sell. If you're not sure you need a store at all, start with online store or website. Otherwise write to us with what you sell and how many products you have, and we'll tell you plainly whether to build with us or rent Shoptet.
