E-shop or Website? When Online Selling Pays Off and When a Presentation Site Is Enough

Last year we worked on two projects from the same street in Prague 7. A jewelry maker needed a custom e-shop. A renovation company needed a corporate website with a quote form. The renovation company saved over 2,400 EUR by not building an e-shop they did not need.

Decision framework: product vs. service

You need an e-shop when: you have products with fixed prices, customers can buy without your help, products can be shipped.

A presentation website is enough when: every project needs individual pricing, customers need consultation first, your services cannot be standardized into a catalog.

The hybrid approach

A website with a product catalog but no cart. Customers see products with prices and photos. Instead of "Buy" there is a quote request form. Works for custom manufacturing, B2B sales, premium products, and small catalogs. Typically 1,600-4,000 EUR.
