Email Marketing

Email marketing is a digital marketing strategy that uses email to promote products, nurture leads, and build ongoing relationships with customers and prospects. Campaign types include newsletters delivering regular content, promotional offers targeting sales, drip sequences automating multi-step communication based on user behavior, and transactional messages triggered by specific actions like purchases or password resets.

The effectiveness of email marketing depends on list quality, segmentation, and relevance. Sending the same message to an entire list produces poor results compared to segmenting recipients by behavior, preferences, or lifecycle stage. Platforms like Mailchimp, SendGrid, ConvertKit, and ActiveCampaign provide tools for list management, template design, automation workflows, and performance analytics.

For web development, email marketing involves technical implementation at multiple levels. Developers integrate email service provider APIs to trigger transactional emails, build signup forms with proper validation and double opt-in flows, implement tracking pixels and UTM parameters for attribution, and ensure email templates render correctly across email clients. Understanding deliverability factors like SPF, DKIM, and DMARC DNS records is also relevant, as these configurations directly affect inbox placement.
